Volunteer
Volunteering
with the Friends can bring you many benefits -- from learning
successful gardening techniques, to having the satisfaction of doing
something good for the environment. Docents will improve their
public speaking skills and have an opportunity to introduce the park
to visitors. High school students can earn community service
credits. And helping with our children's education programs can be
fun and fulfilling for volunteers.
If you don't have time to volunteer on a regular basis, please
consider helping out at one of our special events, like Pumpkins in
the Park or Spring in Guadalupe Gardens. We need many
people to present these events and your help on a one-time basis would
be greatly appreciated.
Please complete
the volunteer form below, email Lucy
Perez or call (408) 298-7657 for more details.

Bracey
attended U.C. Berkeley, City College of San Francisco and DeAnza
College. Her career included administrative work at Harvard
University School of Design and several architectural firms in San
Francisco. Following her move to SCV, she became a computer
programmer, database and software applications designer, and a
software product manager with General Electric/NASA, Metaphor
Systems, IBM and Remedy Software. Since 1998 she has volunteered
many hours in the Heritage Rose Garden. Bracey became a University
of California Cooperative Extension Master Gardener in 1999 and
currently serves that program in numerous capacities. Bracey was the
coordinator for the Going Native Garden Tour, and is active in the
Mediterranean Garden Society, Western Horticultural Society,
California Native Plant Society, and Friends of Pacific
Horticulture.
Meet Greg Hernandez
Greg
Hernandez has been volunteering with Friends since 2000 and has been
around to see the organization grow and change. He first began
volunteering at the old Ranger Station on Santa Clara St and has
worked Tuesdays answering phones, staffing the front desk at the
Visitor & Education Center, and helping with office administration.
You may have also seen him at special events such as Spring in
Guadalupe Gardens and Pumpkins in the Park. Greg is very personable
and is always interested in knowing how staff members and other
volunteers are doing. His warm smile and personality along with his
knowledge and eagerness to help visitors to the park makes anyone
feel welcome.
Greg is an avid bike rider and will be going to Idaho this summer
for a 440-mile bike and camping tour that will begin in Idaho Falls
and loop back to its starting point after a week! He has worked to
coordinate large bike events with the Almaden Cycling and Touring
Club and is happy to share his vast knowledge of bicycles and
trails. We are sad he will be gone during our "Bikes in the Park"
Summer Day Camp on August 8th, but we will be thinking of him as he
makes his way through Idaho.
We greatly appreciate Greg’s good cheer, long-time dedication,
and willingness to help with whatever is needed.
