Are you the leader of a Brownie, Cub Scout or neighborhood group? Do you home-school your children? If you would like to schedule one of our workshops (like Name That Plane! listed above) for your group, at a time that works for you, please give us a call. We can arrange a date and time that is mutually agreeable – and we make it easy by supplying all the materials, instruction, set-up and clean-up. Cost is $8.00 per child with a minimum of 10 children or $80 per group. Maximum number of children is 20. Adult chaperones must accompany the group.  You can choose from any number of workshop topics, according to the interests and needs of your group of children.

Let’s Look for the Chinook!
Seasonal: late fall
Just when the weather gets bad and you start to stay indoors more often, the Chinook salmon start making their way back into the Guadalupe River to spawn.  Take a look and see if we can spot some of these fantastic fish right here in downtown San Jose and learn more about their fishy ways with games and exploration of their wonderful life journey.  Please provide 2-3 parent helpers

Life Cycle Explorers
Discover the world of bugdom by taking an up close and personal look at their amazing life cycles. Become a life cycle expert as you observe the different stages of metamorphosis – from egg to adult. Go for a walk along the Guadalupe River searching for these amazing changers at work in their natural habitat. Insects available for view depend on season.  Please provide 1-2 parent helpers

Hoot, Hoot, Who!
Have a “hoot” of time learning about the owls that may be found along the banks of the Guadalupe!  Learn about food webs and food chains and become an owl detective as you dissect an owl pellet. Discover the amazing adaptations these creatures have for being nocturnal hunters.  Please provide 1-2 parent helpers

Plant a Pizza!
What makes pizza taste so good? Freshly grown ingredients, of course! Come learn about where your food comes from. Grind wheat and learn about how important this grain has been through history. Plant tomatoes, basil, and oregano to take home or to your classroom. Tomato planting dependent on seasonal availability.  Please provide 1-2 parent helpers

Name that Plane
Calling all airplane enthusiasts! Learn how to identify different aircrafts and make a spotting journal to record your sightings. We will explore the basic physics of flight and take a closer look at the engineering that allows planes to fly. Design your own paper airplanes and test them at our unique location near the flight path of San Jose International Airport.  Please provide 2-3 parent helpers.

Wiggly Worms!
Learn how these little recyclers view our garbage and how they help to save the environment, as well as looking at them in a whole different view under the microscope! Learn about worm anatomy, conduct a worm exploration, and discover how important worms are to our soil. Take a look inside our worm bin and see them hard at work.
